Alexandra Smith (she/her)
Alexandra Smith
Founder and President
Debuting on the Minnesota circuit, Alexandra moved to the National Circuit following the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic allowing her to experience both in-person and virtual debate. After a successful career accumulating 11 Congressional Debate TOC bids, Alexandra was the 2021 Champion of the National Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament in Congressional Debate House and Final Round Presiding Officer Champion.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Alexandra saw the opportunity for continued online connection, collaboration, and maintenance of debating skills once the nation reopened. Prioritizing accessibility for those without the financial ability to travel, as well as those without established debate teams, Alexandra was motivated to act.
Combining this realization with an ambition to stay involved in the Speech & Debate Community after graduation, Alexandra founded the company that you know today: How To Congress LLC.
Alexandra is a rising sophomore at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She is currently pursuing an Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities Bachelor of Arts with a Masters of Management in a dual degree program at Sauder Business School.
Working with a staff of coaches, content curators, and behind the scene media managers, Alexandra works to engage students in critical thinking skills and take competitors from the primary stage of learning "How to Congress," through the stages of How to Bid for the TOC, How to Become a Better Presiding Officer, and maybe even How to Become the next National Champion!
